Freelance Video Editor – Remote | Craft Compelling Stories for Growing Businesses
Job Description
Your Responsibilities
Since 2003, Surf Star Media has created websites, videos, and media that help small businesses—contractors, realtors, restaurants, mechanics, developers, and municipalities—tell authentic stories and grow. From local Maine trades to past collaborations with Sony Music, Major League Baseball, Vans Warped Tour, and more, we focus on easy-to-use, memorable content that drives real results.
We're expanding our creative network and seeking a freelance video editor to elevate our video projects with exceptional post-production.
What You'll Do
- Edit raw footage (including drone, on-site shoots, interviews) into polished videos that span:
- Regional television commercials
- YouTube long-form pieces
- Website hero sections and components
- High-engagement social media content (Instagram Reels, TikTok, Facebook/YouTube Shorts)
- Deliver "wow" factor: cinematic pacing, strong emotional hooks, seamless transitions, color grading, sound design, and motion graphics
- Create compelling narratives—each project is like a mini-documentary: inform while forging an emotional bond with the audience (not generic corporate explainers)
- Collaborate remotely: receive footage/assets, provide cuts/revisions, and ensure seamless integration across platforms
What We Value Most
- Expert post-production skills with broadcast/regional TV commercial quality
- Proficiency in Adobe Premiere Pro and After Effects (strongly preferred; DaVinci Resolve or similar also welcome)
- Deep understanding of social media video trends and optimization (vertical formats, hooks, captions, pacing for IG/TikTok)
- Storytelling mindset: edits that capture a business's unique voice, build connection, and support growth goals
- Reliability & clear communication: meet deadlines, provide revision-friendly workflows (e.g., via Frame.io or similar)
- Location: Fully remote (U.S. time zones preferred for easy collaboration); Maine-based a bonus but not required
What We Offer
- Project-based freelance work with competitive, fair rates (structured to reward quality and speed)
- Creative freedom: we respect your artistic decisions and want your best, narrative-driven edits
- Meaningful projects: help Maine small businesses (and select national clients) stand out through powerful video storytelling
- Long-term collaboration potential for consistent, high-quality partners
- A team that values integrity, transparency, and mutual growth
If you're passionate about turning everyday business stories into emotional, engaging videos that perform across platforms, we'd love to see your work.
